Green Skin Care

I'm no beauty influencer. I don't own a ring light and I apply eye shadow with my finger tips (because I'm too lazy to use my brushes). But I like my face to look nice and I've got a passion for doing it with plant-based alternatives. Here's why:

While Canada and Europe have banned 1300+ ingredients from use in cosmetics/skin care, the US has only banned 11. ELEVEN. Google it.
Companies do not have to demonstrate safety before their products go to market. They count on us assuming a product is "safe" if it's on store shelves. They leave the research up to us. And we don't know what we don't know until we do. So next time you're grabbing your favorite beauty products, here's a list of a few dirty ingredients (aka carcinogens and hormone disruptors) you'll want to avoid.

Ingredients to avoid:
  • Formaldehyde (and formaldehyde releasers: broponol, DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, and quaternium-15)
  • Synthetic Fragrance - companies are permitted by law to use this as a catch-all term for hundreds of chemicals, a proprietary blend which they do not need to list individual ingredients for.
  • Phthalates - one of the hidden chemicals under that catch-all term fragrance
  • Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP) - found in nail polish. Studies have shown this chemical in urine samples after being painted on nails.
  • Parabens - Butyl, propyl and ethyl parabens
  • Mineral oil / Parrafin - I know sounds safe right? It’s derived from petroletum, used in lipgloss, concealer, eye shadows and can carry carcinogenic properties
  • Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) - contains small amounts of ethylene oxide. According to the  National Toxicology Program's Eighth Annual Report on Carcinogens, ethylene oxide increases the incidences of uterine, breast, leukemia and brain cancer. Related — Propylene Glycol (PG) and  butylene glycol (BG) may also be petroleum derived.
  • Siloxanes - found in a variety of skincare and cosmetics
  • Triclosan - hand sanitizer, soaps, shaving cream, mouthwash & toothpaste. Banned in several other countries due to its impact on thyroid and reproductive hormones.
  • Oxybenzone - endocrine disruptor found in sunscreen, lotions, lip balms, cleansers and some baby products (noooo thank you).

"Beauty is only skin deep", they say -- except your skin is not a barrier. It's more like a big old entryway into your long-term health. So maybe make one switch at a time, each time you run out of your current beauty product, and take your sweet skin and your HEALTH back.

A few of my favorite clean, green skin care products here:

Bloom Brightening Cleanser
Naturally derived facial wash to address the appearance of uneven skin and help you find that radiance again. Leaves my (sensitive) face feeling so fresh and smooth! BLOOM by Young Living Brightening Cleanser is powered by plumeria flower extract, sodium hyaluronate, and pracaxi seed oil that helps to both cleanse and hydrate the skin.

Bloom Brightening Essence
My dull skin’s BFF is BLOOM by Young Living™ Brightening Essence. This luminous, gel-textured essence infuses moisture into skin, refining skin’s look and texture. Its pH balance-restoring formula supports skin barrier function, reduces the appearance of pores, and leaves your skin refreshed and radian

ART Intensive Moisturizer
Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while delivering deep hydration for smoother, more supple-feeling skin!

Savvy Minerals Liquid Foundation
Love the dewy finish of this foundation that contains gentle, pure ingredients for medium - full coverage. Made with Sacred Sandalwood™ essential oil to enhance the natural radiance of skin, avocado oil to hydrate and reduce moisture loss, and lots of other skin-loving ingredients. My secret to buying online: Hold the under/pale side of your wrist up to the screen and match to the closest shade!

Savvy Minerals Concealer

This medium- to full-coverage liquid concealer has a buildable formula to instantly lighten and conceal while also smoothing and hydrating the skin. While it delivers full coverage, the creamy, lightweight formula blends effortlessly for a natural look that won’t settle into lines, cake, crease, or flake. Plus, it’s made with Manuka and Tea Tree essential oils to help reduce the appearance of blemishes while the rich pigment helps hide discoloration!

Savvy Minerals Lengthening + Volumizing Mascaras
Love to use both of these natural mascaras with unique plant fibers for both length and volume!
