We recently went on a road trip from Philly to Martha's Vineyard, MA to visit family with our two year old - who is a super BUSY boy. My sister-in-law who travels back and forth 12 hours from Philly to Georgia several times a year with a toddler AND dog gave me some of the BEST ideas for keeping him entertained on the road. If you don't have one already, a Fire Tablet is an easy choice. They have a built-in kid's profile with tons of games, online books, activities and shows already loaded. PLUS you can download streaming apps like Disney+, Netflix, etc. and download whatever you need for offline viewing. "I Spy" books for when the movies start to become a bore and there's not much outside the window but the highway for miles and miles. This actually helped keep my toddler entertained for a gooood long while after we got a flat tire and had to wait for AAA on the side of the road. Reusable Puffy Stickers so your toddler can change his or her mind over and over about where they belong and create lots of different scenes. We love this one from Melissa & Doug with a farm scene on each side. Or grab this entire sticker book. Water Painting To GO! This folds up easily so you can throw it in your bag or the pocket on your back seat. We also grabbed this Crayola Mess Free coloring set, so no one can color outside of the lines on the leather seat. This set has stamps, stickers, coloring paper, wonder markers and folds up conveniently in a plastic carrying case. Toddler TRAVEL TRAY! Teddy absolutely loved racing his cars around this, snacking off of it and you can even draw on it. Folds up nicely for storage when you're done and fits well over a car seat either rear or forward facing. And when in doubt, DANCE it out (safely seated of course). Glow sticks are great for nighttime driving dance parties with some of your toddler's favorite songs on. Grab these or look out for them in the dollar section at Target. Also, never could have made it without my wellness SURVIVAL kit. Here are some of the things we ALWAYS keep on hand for whatever comes up:
Not a YL member yet and want to grab these, get your STARTER KIT here! And obviously, pack ALL THE SNACKS. We kept a cooler in the car with iced coffee for us, and for Teddy -- milk, some yogurt, apple sauce pouches, Milano cookies (for good behavior), Pirate's Booty, goldfish and some turkey & cheese roll ups for an easy lunch.
