What's In My Hospital Bag?

5/28/2021

I was utterly underprepared for my first birth, which started with my water breaking, followed by 28 hours of labor (2 pushing) and ultimately an emergency c section when Teddy went sunny side up and meconium was detected.  I was offered pain meds, inflammatory foods and sugary drinks following his birth in the hospital (which is fairly standard). Even the natural birthing classes I took at my yoga studio didn't really cover post partum care past getting the baby out, feeding the baby and sleep schedules for baby.

This time around I'm going in with a bagful of items to support healing after a lot of research.

Note:
I'm not a doctor, check with your's and do what's right for YOUR body mama!

Here's a list of my must-haves:

Diffuser + calming oils
- I'm using my Desert Mist (tip: eave the decorative cover at home for easy transport!)
- Calming oils to diffuse before, during, after labor: Gentle Baby, Peace + Calming or Valor

NingxiaRed
  • Crazy high in antioxidants which fight free radicals and inflammation
  • Trace minerals + nutrients needed for daily wellness

Aminowise
  • aids in muscle repair
  • hydrating blend of minerals
  • Vitamin E + zinc
  • no added sugars, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, or artificial colors or flavors

Vitality Drops
  • natural electrolytes from the Great Salt Lake
  • Add to water for extra hydration!
  • Natural flavor from oils! So delish

Seedlings Baby Oil + Shampoo
  • Plant-based infant care for first bath! I have no idea what they use in the hospital, but I'd wager a bet that it's not all-natural or even low tox.
  • All the calming oils for soothing baby's sweet newborn skin

Oils for mood support + cramping + milk production:
  • Trauma Life
  • Valor
  • Clary sage
  • Milk roller: 10 each Basil + Fennel
  • After birth cramps (which spoiler alert are worse as you have more babies): Black pepper, sandalwood, copaiba roller
Placenta Encapsulation Kit
  • Provided by my local placenta encapsulation service provider! Complete with instructions for the delivery team.
  • Benefits may include mood support, recovery + milk production

Milkful Nursing Bars
  • Grabbed these on Thrive Market!  Super clean ingredients.

Vital Proteins Beef Liver
  • Skin health + natural energy

Belly Bandit
  • Your belly feels like it's going to fall out of your body following a c section. This helps a TON!

BINTO Prenatals!
  • So important to keep taking your prenatals following birth. I love My Binto, custom prenatals. They actually update your custom packet following birth for post partum care!

Cozy clothes, warm socks, headphones + toiletries for mom
  • Hospitals are chilly!  I picked up a ton of cozy clothes from Target, fuzzy socks with non-slip grips
  • Headphones for meditation + music

Nursing shields + organic nipple pads

Swaddles + infant gowns for baby
  • Allll about easy access for the diaper changes that happen a million times a day in the beginning.

ANDDDD no undies!!  The hospital provides those 😉
